The King´s Manor House from 1527- a heritage property from 1300s. From King Magnus Eriksson to King Gustav Vasa.
Nestled in lush green surroundings, Kungs Starby Gård B&B is the perfect
destination for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The property with its distinguished heritage, set within its own 2-hectare park, offers a peaceful retreat within walking distance of the historic town of Vadstena, with its renowned castle and monastery. King Magnus Eriksson and queen Blanka donated the manor with its 700 hectare of land to the monastery, but in 1527 the ownership returned to King Gustav Vasa.
The North wing went down in flames and was rebuilt in 1762. Here you´ll find three rooms with comfortable double beds and eco-friendly bedding, duvets and pillows. Each room has its own private bathroom for added comfort and convenience. Blackout curtains and handwoven linen bathrobes enhance the exclusive feel. Guests can relax in the cozy living room, and breakfast is served in the breakfast room, where you can also enjoy an espresso or tea during the day. The North wing is ideal for individuals. couples or groups up to six adults, and the entire wing can be rented for your group.
The Dog friendly Hen House, a beautifully renovated standalone
accommodation, is perfect for guests seeking privacy and independence,
especially those travelling with their four-legged friends. It features one bedroom with a double bed and a sofa bed, while the living room also
includes a sofa bed. This makes it suitable for a family of four or three adults. Additionally, the Hen house has a small, fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, a bathroom and a private terrace with a grill, providing a tranquil space to relax.
We are open for group bookings of the entire property, making it an ideal venue for family gatherings, small retreats or private events. With our beautiful park, proximity to Vadstena´s rich history, and charming accomodations, Kungs Starby Gård will offer you a truly unique and memorable experience.

Breakfast

Begin your day with the warm, inviting scent of freshly baked
sourdough bread. Our breakfast combines Scandinavian traditions with a selection of local and homemade delights. Enjoy crisp breads, rye bread, sourdough, locally sourced cheeses, cured meats, fresh vegetables from the garden, creamy yoghurts with fruit, nuts, seeds and homemade granolas. Complement your meal with freshly brewed espresso, tea, fresh juices and free-range eggs.
When the weather allows, take your breakfast outdoors to the peaceful garden just beyond the door- a perfect spot to enjoy a tranquil start to your day.
We take pride in using organic, locally sourced ingredients: coffee from Vadstena rosteri, free-range eggs from nearby farms, and apple juice made from the fruit of our own orchard. Homemade bread, our signature sea buckthorn berry jam, and apple & calvados chutney add a personal touch, ensuring every breakfast feels special.
During the cold season you will always find a fire crackling in the wood burner.
About us
There should be a picture of us here. But as photographers, we rarely find ourselves in front of the camera- something we promise to fix! In the meantime, you get to admire the beautiful sea buckthorn plantation that greets you at the entrance to the farm.
We're Karl and Lina- two photographers who traded the fast pace of Stockholm for the tranquil life at Kungs Starby Gård. Karl, originally from New Zealand, found his way to Stockholm after a few years in New York- for love, for Lina. In July 2023, we opened Kungs Starby Gård B&B. At first, only the Hen House was available, but we've since renovated the North Wing and are proud to now offer the additional three beautiful double rooms with a shared living room.
Sustainability and Care
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do- for our daughter, her future and for generations to come. That´s why we use organic textiles for our beddings and RDS- certified down products. We avoid synthetics due to micro-plastics. Breakfast is organic, and following the seasons we serve vegetables and fruit from the garden. What we don´t use will return to the earth as compost.
A Place to Unwind
We've curated a space for you to truly relax. Just a two-minute bike ride will take you to Rådhustorget, but when you return, there is a peaceful garden waiting for you- along with a restful night´s sleep.
